Well...dammit. I was juuuust starting to maybe be interested in this teen angst drama about vampires, and turned the page to find...the end.AND the follow up isn't even out yet. Although it does say the one character I found interesting is no longer involved in the story, so that's a huge negative.
Basically, books should be books and even novellas should not just stop in the middle of the page. I felt like I'd read the set up for a book, not an actual book.

This book gave me mixed feelings. At least three times, I was sorely tempted to stop reading. The only thing that kept me reading was the plot. There was so much jumping around, and grammatical errors to get through that I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue. But the plot… I just had to find out what was going to happen next! Ugh!! *le sigh* The end was definitely the best part of the story. That’s where the action is. I’m very curious as to what Liam had to do with Kallie’s father’s change, and why Caleb is always around. So 3 stars for the great plot and for pushing me away and pulling me in at the same time. Never had this happen to me before.
I really enjoyed this read. I love the paranormal and this book takes a uniquely different look at the vampire. The author has done a great job with introducing us with the perfect amount of background info and has really wowed me with her characters and plot development with the perfect balance of suspense, romance, and mystery. It is a quick read and after I was able to become fully engrossed into the story it was over all too soon. Even if it hadn't been quick for me I would have read it straight through anyway, it had me hooked needing to know what was going to happen next. It's really fast paced without feeling rushed. I am definitely grabbing book 2 immediately! I can't wait to get started. I was given a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review, and it is #FREE on as of the writing of this review!
I understand the fascination with Vampires. Seductive, erotic, manipulative, blood drinking monsters that look like humans and represent us at our worst and most beguiling. But, that being said I think this story on whole is extremely derivative of Twilight. Two species of Vamps instead of Vamp vs Were wolf, Hokey Blue Blood vs Red Blood (White collar vs blue collar). However the storyline is better written, characters more developed, and is a decent read. Just reminded me of Twilight.
I had high expectations for this book as I have read 10 books of one of her other series but this one just did nothing for me. The heroine seems weak and uninteresting and even though the title talks of courage, none emerges in the writing. Don't expect this to be much more than an introduction to a story. It does introduce the characters but tells you little or nothing about them. Not quite a cliff hanger but one of those books that just stops rather than having an actual ending.
It's free so if you like her writing give it a try. It might appeal to pre-teens who like vamps for all I know. The writing did seem a bit childish to me when I compare it to her other books which have much more complex characters and stronger story lines.
Kallie gets an interview with the hottie police detective, which was hard to do as he has never been interviewed. Their seems to be some type of spark between them. She has to be careful what she says as their is a problem with her father. It seems that 2 years ago her and her father got in a wreck and somehow he became a vampire. She needs help with him so she asks the hottie detective for help and it turns out he is a vampire also. He agrees to help. When he goes to her house all heck breaks out. I won't spoil it for you but trust me you wanna read the book. It is a fantastic read and I couldn't put it down. AWESOME BOOK.........
I really enjoyed this story by author W.J. May and its a perfect story. I've been waiting on a different type of vampire story because they all seem to just be all alike. I must say that May has done this. This isn't your typical vampire story. I love W.J. May's imagination and it shows how great her writing is when you red/listen to this story. The characters are all interesting along with the background. She gives you just enough information that you easily understand what's going on. I can't wait for the next story in this series, Night Watch. I am really looking forward to what happens next with Kallie, Liam, and Caleb. It seems that when a wreck happened Kallie's da died and someone turned him into a vampire. It just so happens that Liam and Caleb were both at the scene. There's a huge feud between red and blue eyed vampires. As soon as Kallie's dad sees Liam he wants to kill him and said Liam is the one that made him a vampire. I don't believe that Detective Liam Steel turned him. I definitely recommend you read/ listen to this story. It was filled with intrigue, a great plot, twists and turns, along with a cliffhanger.
Narrator Angel Clark's performance was really good. I didn't have any trouble identifying the characters throughout the story. She kept me immersed from start to finish. Overall, a perfect 5 star rating!
I hate cliffhangers. If you can't finish the stupid story, don't publish it in the first place. It's an immature copout. This YA story had my attention until I got to the "end". Series? You barely developed the plot.
